Dare to Know
One day, I was with my group of people during my school break and a one of us said something about politics in our country. A person in our group (Lets call him Bob) has this problem where If something about science, math, economics, tech, or politics is brought up in the group, he HAS to start an argument/debate. So he starts cursing and trying to prove his point and all of us are backing each other up except me. I wanted to say something but I was stuck between sides and I didn't want to get involved in this pointless argument.
Hello, Karim:
ReplyDeleteMs. Naughton posted her class blogs on our Twitter Social Studies page, so I thought I would take a peek and give you a few comments. I teach Civics/American Government to eighth graders in Boston, Mass.
I think everyone can relate to the scene you described in your post. We all have had several of these instances where we’re frozen – not knowing what to do, but wanting to do something. My question to you is: if you could go back to that moment during the school break and do it over again, what do you think you would do? It’s tempting to say that you would ‘give Bob a piece of your mind’, etc., but think about being in the moment for real… What do you think you might do?
